Michael Jackson's death has captured almost every news station 24/7. It's amazing to see how much one man's life, music, and untimely death can touch so many millions from every continent on earth. It reminds me of when Elivis died. By the time you get this, funeral plans will probably be set, and millions will watch (if televised), and millions more will buy memorabilia, cds, and other stuff to find comfort as they remember the king of pop.
But all of this makes me think about another king. A king who died earlier than expected. A king who also had a lot of furor surrounding his life and death. But this was before TV and the internet, so things quieted down fairly quickly. But think of the real difference: while one king made great music and was amazingly gifted (and flawed), the other king healed people, gave truth that's been changing lives for 2,000 years, and never sinned. And this king rose from the dead. This king brings eternal and abundant life to all WHO BELIEVE. I'm glad we worship the King of kings!
Speaking of worship, we're walking through the Gospel of John (chapter 11 this week). Buck Rogers will bring the message (no Frankie the dog this weekend). If you missed last Sunday, please listen to this very important 5 minute podcast. Board member Bob Kelly updates us on CBC finances and our current financial challenges we're all facing.
I look forward to seeing you this weekend. We'll have normal worship times this 4th of July weekend.
